19th december 2007 – margaret & i stole away to kundasang (1.5 hour ride from kota kinabalu) for a 3day/2night break.

the junks we thought we would NEED

after checking in to fairy garden resort, we drove over to kinabalu pine resort for a look-see. we found a spot where margaret spent time reading while i re-wrote my journal… and drank & snacked away. * margaret insisted that i put a note here to specify that she did NOT drink a single drop of beer.

steamboat for dinner
 it was c-o-o-o-o-l-d!
complete disarray, and it was only day 1
lihing (local rice wine) for sale
the next morning, we visited the kinabalu national park
again, we did more reading… and journaling
later in the afternoon, we visited the newly upgraded kundasang war memorial. i’m amazed at the transformation.
 it was well-maintained
the borneo garden features a lot of orchids
the english garden is filled with roses
this is the contemplation pool, in remembrance of the hundreds who would never get to return home to see their family members again.
following that, we took the opportunity to walk around the nearby market
colourful chrysanthemums for sale
 local honey
this was where margaret bought some chicken wings
last stop of day 2, we dropped by a hotel (formerly known as perkasa hotel) for a visit. alas, it was raining heavily, so we did not manage to walk around

on our final day in kundasang, we were feeling pretty adventurous. so, abandoning our vehicle, we decided to walk approximately 30mins to our favourite hang out in kundasang…
…TA-DAH! i do not know the name of the coffee shop (located right opposite the kinabalu national park) but they sure serve fantastic toast and sandwiches. must try!
one of the more interesting things i found along the way. heeheheheh… siapa punya celana?
this dog was totally loyal. he followed us all the way to the coffee shop.
after checking out of our resort, we drove to pekan nabalu, where we again stopped for a drink and to do some more reading.
kayu tas for sale! a kadazan man told us that it is pantang (prohibited for superstitious reasoning) to use this stick to hit any living being.
opps, abrupt end. well, i enjoyed this trip in that it was truly relaxing. a time of refreshing indeed.
